LEGO introduces 3rd Generation Mindstorms EV3 Robotics platform

45544_mod_gyroboy_01_LeftLEGO just announced the third generation of their consumer robotics platform – the LEGO Mindstorms EV3.  This new version is powered by an ARM processor and runs on Linux-based firmware packed with connectivity enhancements including Bluetooth and WiFi. It can be controlled by Infrared (IR) remote or by a mobile device (iOS or Android). It also has USB and an SD card slot for easy storage upgrades. And if that’s not enough, this version comes with a Gyro sensor and an IR beacon to use with its new Infrared Seeker Sensor.

The Mindstorms EV3 kit also has upgraded software along with a 3D virtual instructional guide available on the iPad.

The new kit will be available starting in the second half of 2013 for an MSRP of $349.99. FIRST LEGO League plans to make them available for competition this year as well!
